About three years ago I was trying to determine the Jubilee cycle for our modern times. Several different Christian scholars had different dates for the Jubilee from the time of Jesus forward. The purpose of this fifty-year cycle is to return the land to its original owner. (Leviticus 25:8-11) It was then that I realized that there has been no Jubilee since the Jews were deported from Israel in 135 A.D. Perhaps because there was no one there to receive back the land!

I coupled this thought with my knowledge of events that occurred in 1517, which I believe is a marker year. Three events that happened in that year effected the Lord’s Church, the Lord’s Chosen People, and the Promised Holy Land.

1. You may recognize 1517 as the date of the beginning of the Reformation, the reforming of the Church.
2. This was also the year that the Jewish rabbis changed the counting of years in the Hebrew calendar. The calendar began the yearly count with the conquest of the world by Alexander the Great. This was known as the Minyan Shtarot and ceased in 1517. At that time they counted the years from the very Beginning, when the Lord created the world.
3. Lastly, in 1517 the Holy Land was conquered by a people who would later be known as the Ottoman Turks.

We are now at 2017, 500 years from the marker year of 1517. This, I believe, is a Jubilee year. More importantly, this will be the tenth Jubilee cycle since 1517. Ten is the number of “ordinal” perfection. Numerous times in the Bible the number “ten” represents the completion of a plan or pattern of the Lord.

While Adam was given the privilege of naming the animals, God named the stars (Psalms 147:4, Isaiah 40:26, Genesis 1:14). The story of the Lord’s Plan has been found in the heavens long before the Lord gave Moses the first books of the Bible. This is not about astrology, a Satanic counterfeiting of the Lord’s work, this is about the Plan of Salvation as written in the stars of heaven.

The Story in the Stars begins with Virgo, the virgin, and ends with Leo, the lion of Judah. It is all about the coming Savior. When the Apostle John wrote of Satan casting one-third of the stars to earth (Revelation 12:4), he could see the constellation Hydra (a giant serpent) which encompasses one-third of the stars.

John also described a “great sign” in heaven. A woman clothed in the sun, with the moon at her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Revelation 12:1) Astronomers, not astrologers, have noted that this sign is about to appear in the heavens. Further, they say that this particular arrangement of the constellation Virgo (the woman), the twelve stars, the sun and the moon have not occurred in before in history. With computer simulation they can regress the sun, moon and stars to any date they desire. They have not found this “great sign” in all of history.

This sign will appear in the sky on September 23, 2017, two days after the Feast of Trumpets. It is a remarkable and apparently Biblical sign that will appear in the sky this year. I do not know what it portends, but it is clearly unique and important.

I believe 2017 is a marker year, just as 1517 was a marker year. I would not be surprised if specific events occurred that effected the Church, the Israelis, and the Land of Israel. I clearly do not know what those events would be, but our God is orderly and in control. May His will be done.
