Two-Minute Warning

Professional football fans are accustomed to the two-minute warning. This is an anachronism from the old days of football, where the referees stop the game and inform the coach of each team that there is only two minutes remaining in that particular half of the game.

Many Christians are looking for a revival in America. We certainly can use one. In my view, we live in a time of rebellion and will not see the revival. The people of the United States are not Christians because they have not heard the Word or had the opportunity to hear the Word. Those that are not Christians are in that state because they rebel. They do not wish to follow the Lord. They are selfish, or lovers of themselves.

In II Timothy 3:1-4, Paul says, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good . . ." and on and on. After some recent court decisions and actions by our congress, Isaiah 59:14 seems applicable – "And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter." In this time when Christian-bashing is politically correct, the next verse, Isaiah 59:15 seems to fit – "Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey."

We live in Sodom and Gomorrah. Not because of the militancy of homosexuals, but because of the definitions of these names. Sodom means "burning" and Gomorrah means "submerged". Our society burns with lust and is submerged in sin. Burning and submerged are an interesting description of the two cities, also (Genesis 19:24).

I try not to be negative, but I believe the above is an honest description of the state of American society and culture. This, however, is not limited to the United States. It is prevalent in all of the advanced, "Christian" nations of the world. Although they have many Christians as citizens, most of the "third world" nations are pagan. I do not believe the people of the world are ready for a revival.

If you have not guessed, I believe that we live in the End Times. I believe that is why Paul's description in Second Timothy seems to fit our times. I believe the anticipated great revival will occur when the world receives its "two-minute warning". When the Lord gathers, or "raptures", His Church out of this world, many of those who rebelled will wake up and repent. This event is going to happen. The Church will be called Home. Paul describes it in I Thessalonians 4:16. Of course, the question is, "When?".

Those of us who are prepared, who have not rebelled, who have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb, must work diligently to teach those about us who have not accepted Jesus. When the world receives the two-minute warning, those we have led to Jesus will thank us as we all praise the Holy Name of the Lord Jesus and watch the last minutes of the "game" from the grandstands of Heaven.
