Seventy Nations

When the family of Noah dispersed from the Ark after the Great Flood, the Bible lists their names. There were seventy grandsons named and from this we received the concept of the Seventy Nations of the World.

During the seven-day Feast of Tabernacles, seventy bulls are sacrificed. (Numbers 29:12-34) According to Jewish tradition, these seventy bulls are sacrificed for the merit of the seventy (Gentile) nations.

Another Jewish tradition says that the angels seen by Jacob (Genesis 28:12), ascending and descending a ladder that reached to Heaven, represent the angels of the various nations. Tradition also says that these nations will arise and fall, but Israel will remain forever. This last tradition is supported by Scripture.

This is all background to a news article published by Reuters on December 22, 2016. Here is a statement from that article:

“France will convene some 70 countries on Jan. 15 for a Middle East peace conference in Paris, its foreign minister said on Thursday, and will invite the Israeli and Palestinian leaders to meet separately at its conclusion.”

Seventy nations, according to the Bible, represent all the nations of the world. These seventy nations will be gathered to discuss the so-called “peace process.” Israel and the enemy Palestinians are not invited. They will be advised in a meeting later.

These seventy nations are gathering against Israel. It may not be in war, but it is a battle. Bear in mind that every peace proposal from the world has involved dividing the Land of Israel. Let me remind you of the Lord’s view on the people Israel:

“For thus saith the LORD of hosts; . . . . he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. – Zechariah 2:8

The nations of the world are playing with fire! Here is a prophecy from Zechariah:

“And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. – Zechariah 12:9

I have always assumed this prophecy was speaking of a military action, but it could refer to an arrogant political action. There is so much prophecy of how the Lord will deal with the rebellious nations of the world. The Prophet Joel tells of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, where the Lord defeated enemy nations while Israel just watched the Lord in action. (Second Chronicles 20:1-30)

“I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. – Joel 3:2 (emphasis added)

This meeting of seventy nations will commence tomorrow, January 15th. My, My. We live in interesting times! Pray for a Great Awakening. The Day of the Lord draws nearer!
