I am deeply concerned about our nation, and for many reasons. One great reason is the shedding of innocent blood. Since 1973 the United States of America has condoned abortion of innocent babies. Abortion is achieved by several violent methods. It is estimated that close to fifty million babies have been aborted since Roe vs. Wade. (1) One website estimates that one out of every four deaths in America is caused by an abortion. (2) If the blood of one man, Abel, cried out to the Lord, how much more the blood of millions of innocent children?
Just as the Lord deals impartially with individuals, He deals with nations with justice. Nations that honor Him and follow His precepts are blessed. This was true of America at one time. Nations that do not honor the Lord are not blessed. In His great justice and holiness, the Lord cannot bless America.
After September 11th several times I was asked, “How could God let this happen to America?” This question was eloquently answered by Anne Graham Lotz, the daughter of Billy Graham.
We live in dangerous and unsettled times, perhaps the Last Days. The Apostle Paul described the Last Days as “perilous times.” (Second Timothy 3:1) The Greek word for “perilous” is chalepos. The word is only used one other time in the entire New Testament. That usage is found in Matthew 8:28 when Jesus confronted two demon-possessed men who are described as “exceedingly fierce” (New King James Version) or “extremely violent” (New American Standard Bible). So, take your pick. Either we live in exceedingly fierce times, or we live in extremely violent times.
There have already been several attempts at terrorist acts within the United States by “home-grown” Muslim fanatics. Or, perhaps a great earthquake, the “big one,” will strike the San Andreas Fault of California or the New Madrid Fault of the Mid-West, or some other unprecedented disaster.
If such occurs, be prepared to answer the question above:
“How could God let this happen to America?”
But, before it happens, may the Lord’s people, His Church, humble themselves and pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, so that He might heal our land. (Second Chronicles 7:14)
