The Fifth Cherubim

From several Scriptures we know that there are four cherubim that surround the throne of God. In the Revelation we find that they always are praising the Lord (Revelation 4:8). There used to be five cherubim. In Ezekiel chapter twenty-eight the prophet is told to take up a lament for the king of Tyre (Ezekiel 28:12-14). But this “king” is not a man. He is supernatural. He was apparently one of the guardian cherubs at one time. He was apparently the fifth cherubim.

This guardian cherub is the person we know as the Devil, or Satan the Accuser. Because of his former position, lost because of the sin of pride, the number five is associated with the Devil to this very day.

The Devil hates the Lord and desires to usurp the position of God. He makes five statements in Isaiah 14:13-14 declaring that he “will be like the most High.”

The satanic pentagram, the five-sided inverted star, is used as a sign by Devil worshippers.

In the Revelation the Fifth Seal is about the martyrs killed in the name of the Devil (Revelation 6:9-11); the Fifth Trumpet describes the release of a huge multitude of demonic beings from the Abyss (Revelation 9:1-3); the Fifth Vial, or bowl of wrath, was poured out on the throne of the Beast, the Devil’s representative on earth during the Tribulation (Revelation 16:10).

In our solar system the Earth is the third planet, Mars is the fourth planet. Beyond the orbit of Mars is what many astronomers believe to be the remains of a fifth planet. All that remains are the chunks of what apparently used to be a planet. They are called asteroids and they populate what is known as the Asteroid Belt.

The above is fact. What follows is speculation raised by the question, “What happened to the fifth planet?” Did the Devil have some plan to usurp the position of God, the Most High, through the use of this planet? Was the destruction of the planet the result of some action of the Devil that went awry?

There are some who believe that the original Earth was destroyed in a battle between the Lord and the Devil. This is called the Gap Theory. I do not subscribe to the Gap Theory. For more information please click HERE. Perhaps we could speculate that the fifth planet was destroyed in the theoretical battle, rather than the Earth.

Or are all these “fives” just a coincidence?

I do not believe in coincidences, particularly in the spiritual realm and in Scripture. Our God is the Most High God. He is in command, and He is not capricious. The destruction of an entire planet just about has to be the result of an action by the Lord. This action may be related to the Devil, the former Fifth Cherubim, or it may not.

All glory belongs to the Lord, always and forever!
