In the last lesson we discussed how the “Gog and Magog War” of Ezekiel 38 and 39 could mesh with the events petitioned for in Psalm 83. The purpose of the Lord’s actions against Gog (and the world) is given in Ezekiel 39:7:
“So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.”
Psalm 83 is very interesting. The nations named in the psalm are basically Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and the Palestinians, using today’s labels. In the psalm, these nations call for the destruction of Israel “that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.” (verse 4) This sounds much like the rantings of Israel’s enemies today.
The psalmist, Asaph, calls for the Lord to treat these nations like the Midianites, Jabin and Sisera, who were all defeated by the Israelite judges. The psalmist calls for curses and punishment from the Lord.
The purpose of the petitioned actions in Psalm 83 parallels those of Ezekiel 38 and 39:
“So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD. Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.” – Psalm 83:15-18 (my emphasis)
I do not know if this is correct. I am trying to understand the pieces as given us in the Word of God. I am firm about one thing. Gog and Magog will not occur at the beginning of the Tribulation. The gathering and burning of weapons for seven years does not indicate that this event happens before the presumed seven years of the Tribulation. No army burns weapons while it is at war. It turns those weapons against its enemy.
I believe Ezekiel 38 and 39 and Psalm 83 all describe End Time events. The Day of the Lord is coming! The Lord will unleash His wrath against rebellious man, and in the end all the world will know that the Lord is God and there is no other. The Church will not be on earth to endure this. Pray for the lost of this world. The time, in my opinion, is short.
To God be the Glory!
