The Great I AM

When the Lord spoke to Moses out of the burning bush, Moses asked His name. The Lord replied, “I AM THAT I AM” (Exodus 3:14) This name is very descriptive of the Lord. The Lord did not say that He was, He is and He will be. He simply IS.

When the Lord Jesus used that phrase to describe Himself, the Jews knew exactly what He was saying and tried to kill Him on the spot (John 8:58-59).

In addition to that simple statement of who He is, the Gospel of John gives us seven more statements of the Lord Jesus which describe His characteristics. Because seven is the number of completion, these seven characteristics given by Jesus must be a complete description of His nature. Clearly, the emphasis is mine.

How wonderful it is to have such a Savior! Praise the name of Jesus always! How I look forward to His calling us Home!
