Joseph, the son of Jacob, is such an amazing picture of the Lord Jesus. So many facets of the life of Joseph foreshadow the life of Jesus here on earth. Joseph is clearly a type of the Lord Jesus. Some Bible scholars say that there are over one hundred ways that Joseph is a foreshadow of Jesus. I will list here only the more evident ones.

• Joseph was his father’s favorite son, as was Jesus.
• Joseph’s brothers hated him, as the Jewish brothers of Jesus hated him.
• Joseph was second in authority to Jacob, to Potiphar, to the Egyptian jailer, and to Pharaoh, just as Jesus is second in authority to God the Father.
• Joseph was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, as the Lord Jesus was falsely accused at His (illegal) trial.
• Joseph was given a Gentile bride, as was the Lord Jesus (the Gentile Church).
• The brothers of Joseph did not recognize him the first time they saw him in Egypt. Egypt is a type of the world. The Jewish brothers of Jesus did not recognize Him the first time they saw Him in this world.
• Joseph revealed himself to his brothers the second time they saw him. The Lord Jesus will reveal Himself to the Jews at His Second Coming.
• Joseph, the most influential person in Egypt after Pharaoh, was provided a magnificent tomb. He instructed the Children of Israel to take his bones with them when they left Egypt. Joseph’s tomb is empty!!! Need I explain further?

When Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt the second time, Joseph had them taken to his house where he had a meal prepared for them. They were astonished to find that their seats at the table were in the exact order of their birth. They wondered, “who was this man?” Finally, Joseph could stand it no longer. He had to let his brothers know his true identity. Before he revealed himself to his brothers, Joseph sent all the Egyptians (Gentiles) away. (Genesis 45:1)

Before the Lord Jesus reveals Himself to His Jewish brothers, He will send all Believers (largely Gentiles) away, out of this world! The Lord Jesus is going to send us away before He reveals Himself to the Jews and defeats the wicked of the earth.

Jesus told His disciples that He was going to prepare a dwelling place for them. (John 14:2) The Prophet Isaiah gives us a wonderful picture about these dwelling places and the End Times. The prophet told us to go into our rooms (that Jesus has prepared in Heaven) and shut the door (see Revelation 4:1) behind us, until the anger and wrath of the Lord is past, because He is coming to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their sin and iniquity. (Isaiah 26:20-21)

Praise the name of the Lord! Pray for the lost! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
