The account of the life of Joseph, son of Jacob, and how it foreshadowed the Lord Jesus continues:
- The brothers of Joseph conspired to kill him. (Genesis 37:20) The Jewish leaders at the time of Jesus conspired to kill Him. (Luke 19:47)
– After they had sold Joseph to the Ishmaelite traders, they dipped his coat in blood and then showed it to their father, Jacob. (Genesis 37:31) When the Lord Jesus returns as King of kings and Lord of lords, His coat will be seen as it were dipped in blood. (Revelation 19:13)
– When Joseph interpreted the dreams of the butler and baker while in prison he implored the butler, who would be restored to his position, to remember him and get him out of prison. Joseph stated that he had been condemned to prison and was not guilty. (Genesis 40:15) The Lord Jesus was condemned and was without guilt. (Matthew 26:59)
– When Pharaoh made Joseph viceroy, he was given a chariot with men to run before it declaring, “Bow the knee!” (Genesis 41:43) Everyone bowed to Joseph. When the Lord Jesus returns, every knee will bow. (Romans 14:11)
– Joseph was thirty years old when he began his ministry for Pharaoh. (Genesis 41:46) The Lord Jesus was thirty years old when He began His ministry. (Luke 3:23)
– When the prophesied famine struck, the brothers of Joseph went to Egypt to get food. When they came before Joseph, they bowed to him. Joseph was clean shaven, wearing Egyptian clothes and speaking Egyptian. The brothers did not recognize Him the first time they saw him. (Genesis 42:8) As prophesied in Isaiah 53:3, when the Lord Jesus came, His Jewish brothers did not recognize Him. (John 1:10-11)
– After the brothers obtained the grain from Egypt, Joseph placed their money back in the sacks along with the food. Joseph paid the price for their food. (Genesis 42:25) When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price for our sins. (First Corinthians 6:20, 7:23)
– When the food ran out, the brothers of Joseph returned to Egypt to get more. This was their second time there. Joseph tested the brothers to see if their hearts had changed. The second time Joseph revealed himself to his brothers. (Genesis 45:3) Although Jesus told the Jews Who He was, most could not see Him the first time. When the Lord Jesus comes to them a second time, they will see and believe. (Jeremiah 24:7)
May our amazing Lord, Most High God and Heavenly Father always be praised!
