Things Not Possible

I struggle with my desire for the soon coming of the Lord Jesus for His church. I look forward to Glory but the struggle is based on the many, many lost souls in this world. They are truly like sheep, and do not know where they are going.

Of course, I do not know the date of the Lord’s return. But the Apostle Paul tells us that we are children of light, and not of darkness, that that day should catch us by surprise. (First Thessalonians 5:4-5) With this mind, there are at least four areas in which prophecy is being fulfilled which simply were not possible a few years ago.

1) We must start with the state of Israel. The Prophet Isaiah asks the question, “Can a country be born in one day?” (Isaiah 66:8) Never before in history has a country been revived after almost two millennia. But Israel was restored as a nation in one day, November 29, 1947. Before then it was not possible for the Jews to even contemplate having their own country. But they do now.

2) Next, one of my favorite prophecies is that of the Two Witnesses. (Revelation 11:3-12) When they are killed, everyone on earth will rejoice and give gifts to each other. But the culminating event of their ministry will be their resurrection which will be witnessed by all “kindreds and tongues and nations.” This was not possible before the creation of satellite television, something we take for granted now.

3) Governments over the millennia have tried different methods of controlling their citizens. Even during the French Revolution citizens were required to carry identification papers. The ambitious prophecy of the Revelation chapter 13 requiring all persons to have a mark in order to buy or sell is something many tyrants would like to have done. But it was not possible until recent years with the advent of computers, radio frequency identification (RFID), bar codes, et cetera. The country of India, in 2009, embarked on a program to provide biometric identity for all of its 1.15 billion citizens. It is possible now.

4) The last thing not possible until recently is the meddling with the genetics of mankind. The Lord has stated His displeasure with hybridizing animals (Leviticus 19:19) Today, scientists are not only modifying the genetics of animals, they are modifying the genes of man. The current arms race is not about a bigger bomb or faster rocket, but a genetically modified “super-soldier.” In my opinion, the hybridizing of human genes by the Sons of God through human women (Genesis 6:2 & 4) was the cause for the destruction of all life on earth by the Great Flood of Noah. The Lord Jesus told us the last days “would be like the days of Noah.” (Matthew 24:37) Mankind is paying no attention to that ominous precedent, and is working to fulfill the prophecy of the Lord Jesus.

The Day of the Lord is closer than ever simply through the passing of time. But it was not possible to be prophetically fulfilled until recent times because of these four facts. Praise the Lord for His patience with mankind and with us individually!
