Revived Roman Empire

A teen-aged young man in my church had just read Hal Lindsey’s Late Great Planet Earth, and raised a question regarding the “revived Roman Empire.” In the back of my mind I knew I agreed with Brother Lindsey, but could not remember why. So I had to return to the source of truth and knowledge, the Bible.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream and only Daniel, through the revelation of God, could both describe and decipher his dream (Daniel 2:31-45). The dream was of a magnificent statue with a head of gold, a chest of silver, belly and loins of bronze, legs of iron, and toes of iron and clay. Daniel described the statue as representing four great kingdoms. From history and from further visions given to Daniel, we know that the four kingdoms shown by the statue were the Babylonian, Mede-Persian, Greek and Roman Empires.

Later, in Daniel chapter seven, the prophet had a vision of four beasts. The fourth beast was described as being different that the others and “dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly.” Then the Ancient of Days sat in judgment of this beast and it was destroyed. Then Daniel saw “one like the Son of man” and everlasting dominion was given to Him. This is a description of the End Times.

An angel explained this fourth beast to Daniel (Daniel 7:23-26). The beast would ten horns representing ten kings and would reign for a time, times and half a time, again apocalyptic language (Revelation 12:14). Daniel’s vision was not of the Roman Empire that we know from history, but a future Roman Empire.

Immediately following World War Two a movement began to unite Europe (the old Roman Empire) into a political and economic union. It started in 1948 (an interesting year) with the formation of BeNeLux, an economic agreement between Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg.

After this, the BeNeLux Agreement resulted in the European Economic Community (EEC) which was established March 25, 1957 by a document known as The Treaty of Rome. A few years later in 1966 a group of men met and divided the entire world into ten regions (or were they thinking of kingdoms?). This presumptuous group of globalist elitists called themselves The Club of Rome.

What is this globalist infatuation with Rome?

Although the Roman Empire disintegrated centuries ago, today we are witnessing the reassembling of that empire in the form of the European Union. (New name, same bunch of countries.) Fitting into End Time Prophecy are the ten toes of the image, representing the final form of human government. These ten toes appear to parallel the ten horns, representing power, and the ten crowns of the Beast of the Revelation 13:1. Recall that “The Club of Rome” divided the world into ten regions or kingdoms.

The Louise Weiss Building is the seat of the European Parliament. It is composed of several parts including a tower. The tower, although finished and in use, appears unfinished. This was done purposefully. It is reminiscent of the Tower of Babel. The European Union seeks to unify all (European?) nations in a reversal of God’s action at the Tower of Babel. (Genesis 11:4) Is that why the building is modeled after an incomplete tower? It appears that the same people who divided the world into ten regions in 1966 are now thinking in terms of uniting the world, just as the people of Nimrod’s time

Whether or not these are the beginnings of a revived Roman Empire is not known, but the world is working hard to make something like it come to pass. However, all will be done in the Lord’s timing and according to His will. May His name always be praised!
