The Lord’s Plan regarding His Covenants is clear. The Plan of Salvation is clear. There are no secrets regarding the Love of God for mankind. However, prophecy and the blueprint of the history of mankind are obscure. I am convinced that the answer to any question of a spiritual nature is in the Bible. Unfortunately, the Lord did not index His Word alphabetically. The answers are there; we just have to search for them.
On June 14, 1998 the Christian Standard published an article criticizing the book entitled “The Bible Codes.” While there are many flaws within this book, the primary one being that the author, Michael Drosdin, does not believe that the Bible is God’s Word, the book raises an interesting premise. The premise is that there is information within the Bible that is not readily visible. The Christian Standard article clearly says that God would not do this.
The author of the article asks, “Does (the) character of God as plainly described in the Bible . . . fit with that of a God who would hide secret messages . . .?” The article discusses God’s Plan of Salvation, described by Paul as a mystery . It continues, “There is no other secret or mystery . . . that has been revealed to or by Paul.”
In Numbers chapter twelve we find the story of Aaron and Miriam, the brother and sister of Moses, rebelling against Moses. The Lord “called them on the carpet” in the Tent of Meeting and stated that He speaks to men through dreams and visions (and riddles). The Lord continued, “My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house . . . With him will I speak mouth to mouth (face to face), even apparently, and not in dark (enigmatic) speeches.” (Numbers 12:7-8) Here the Lords states that He speaks to man in riddles.
So there are other secrets in the Bible, available to those who are willing to search for them. The Lord wants us to search and understand His Word. Clearly, there are other meanings to scripture. Every Sunday preachers use scripture as a practical application for our daily lives. This “practical application” is another level of understanding to the clear Biblical text. Can there be no other meaning to God’s Word? Cannot the Creator of the Universe place riddles, allegories, foreshadows or plain pictures in His Word that show us deeper meanings of His Wonderful Plan?
In Matthew chapter thirteen the Disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables. “For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed.” (Matthew 13:15) “But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.” (Matthew 13:16) Earlier, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Matthew 7:7) Here the Lord is saying, “Search the Word.”
I respectfully disagree with the author of the Christian Standard article, a Bible college professor. There is so much more to God’s Word than meets the eye. Take off the blinders. Study the Word. You will be richly blessed. In Glory, in the presence of God, we will discover just how much we have overlooked in His Word. How I look forward to that Day.
