The Spoken Word

Our mighty Heavenly Father spoke the world into being. The spoken word of the Lord has impact. Because we are created in the image of God, our words likewise have impact. Let me repeat that, our words have impact.

You are probably familiar with the many number of times the Children of Israel complained that the Lord brought them out into the desert that they would die there. They spoke the words that they would die in the wilderness! And after much patience the Lord complied with their spoken words.

“ … As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.” – Numbers 14:28
Words mean things. And if the Lord acts on negative statements, He also acts on positive statements! In fact He commands us to dwell on positive things, for what is in our heart is spoken by our mouth.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8
Let your spoken words be a blessing!

“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life.” – Proverbs 15:4
“A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth.” – Proverbs 12:14
“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” – Proverbs 16:24
Here is more hope from the Word of God:

“For the word of God is quick (alive), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword . . .” – Hebrews 4:12
“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us: And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” – I John 5:14-15
“So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:11
We must cease negative statements and accusations. Bless, do not curse.

“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful (tenderhearted), be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but rather blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.” – I Peter 3:8-9
Bless those about you, and you shall inherit a blessing. May all our words be positive, because our words have impact. May the Lord hear our words of blessing and hope and act upon them. May His name be praised forever and ever!
