After writing the just completed series on the life of Jacob in Padam Aram, I cannot help but wonder if we are not now in, or nearing, the time when the Lord through nature, society and government is showing us hints of things to come.
The Lord Jesus warned us:
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” – Matthew 24:7-8 (my emphasis)There are numerous wars and conflicts occurring in the world today in addition to the wars and proxy-wars the United States is involved in.
Disastrous weather conditions that are causing crop failures, bird flu that decimates the chicken population, swine diseases, scarcity of fertilizers, transportation problems all contribute to the possibility of food shortages or famine.
We are still dealing with the after-effects of the great pestilence, covid-19. The after-effects include continuing governmental and medical authority efforts to control our lives through mandates, masks and fear.
The remarkable thing about this virus was the universal and world-wide response of all governments. The response included lock-downs, required immunization and daily reminders of how many cases there were. It is as if someone was orchestrating this over the entire world.
The number and intensity of earthquakes seems to be increasing. In the decade from 1983 to 1993 there were only three earthquakes that exceeded 8.0 on the Richter Scale. From 1993 to 2003, there were eight earthquakes exceeding 8.0. From 2003 to 2013 there were sixteen earthquakes exceeding 8.0. for 2013 to 2023 there have only been nine earthquakes exceeding 8.0. The recent event in Turkey and Syria, which has claimed over 40,000 lives, is on our minds today, and it was only rated at 7.8 on the Richter Scale.
The Revelation speaks of the rivers being poisoned (Revelation 8:10-11). We have just witnessed a sad event that is threatening to poison the waters in Ohio.
I do not believe that the innocent children will be “left behind” to suffer the Tribulation. We, however, cannot overlook the evil that is perpetrated on them in the form of trafficking and the physical mutilation of “gender reassignment.” This can await those who escape the blood sacrifice known as abortion. Wickedness is upon us.
Of course I do not know if we are, in fact, being shown hints of things to come. I have no idea of the nearness of the coming of Jesus to call us Home. But the universal control and wickedness causes me to suspect what we see are hints of the evil to come.
