INDIANA JONES?

In 1947 a Bedouin shepherd boy found some ancient scrolls in clay jars in Israel. These have become known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. One of the scrolls is known as the Copper Scroll. Instead of ink writing on parchment or sheepskin, this scroll was inscribed by pressing the marks of the Hebrew letters into the soft copper sheets.

It is thought that the authors of the Copper Scroll are the Old Testament prophets Haggai and Zechariah and three other men. Interpretation of the Copper Scroll indicates that it contains directions to the location of a cave containing the Tabernacle and Temple treasures including the Ark of the Covenant. What is even more phenomenal is the fact that the Tabernacle is described as not being folded up, but being erected in a huge cavern.

The Ark of the Covenant is last mentioned in II Chronicles 35:3. This was during the reign of King Josiah, the last king of Judah who honored the Lord. Josiah died twenty-three years before the Babylonian Captivity. It is notable that in the genealogy of Jesus in the first chapter of Matthew, Josiah is listed as the last king before the Captivity.

Vendyl Jones is a Texas archaeologist who has worked in Israel for many years. One of his finds was a huge vat of incense. The incense weighed more than 1200 pounds and is of the same type as was used in the Temple before it was destroyed. It is almost certain that this is Temple incense.

Muhammed Dieb, the Bedouin who found the Dead Sea Scrolls is still alive. Vendyl Jones interviewed him to determine in which cave the scrolls were found. The directions given in the Copper Scroll are based upon the location where it was found. Mr. Jones discovered that the Israeli Antiquities Authority had misdirected people as to the location of the scroll cave. From the directions given by Mr. Dieb, Vendyl Jones was able to locate the area where he found the Temple incense.

Using "ground penetrating radar" he has located what appears to be a huge cavern. The Israeli Antiquities Authority has placed every conceivable obstacle in his path to prevent him from excavating a tunnel to the cave. His latest effort is to drill a small 4-inch hole into which a television camera and light will be inserted. The hope is to determine what, if anything, is in the cavern.

There are some people, including Vendyl Jones, who believe that the story of the archaeologist/adventurer Indiana Jones, or "Indy" Jones, and his search for the Lost Ark is based on Vendyl Jones, or "Vendy" Jones, and his search.

The Copper Scroll says that the Tabernacle, the Ark and other articles are hidden in a huge cavern. Vendyl Jones has found such a cavern in the vicinity of where he found the Temple incense. The Israeli Antiquities Authority continues to place obstacles in his way, for whatever reason. If the Tabernacle and Ark are there, when the Lord wants them revealed, they will be found. What an exciting day that will be! Praise the Name of the Lord.
