The Revelation,
Structure and Characteristics – Part Two

The Sevens of the Revelation

The Revelation is known for the number ‘seven’ that is found throughout the book. Seven is the number of Completion. The complete musical scale has seven notes. The complete rainbow has seven colors. There are seven continents on the complete earth. The Revelation demonstrates the completion of the Plan and Timeline of the Lord.

In addition to the Seven Letters to the Seven Churches, we all know about the Seven Seals described from Revelation 6:1 through 8:1, the Seven Trumpets described from Revelation 8:6 through 11:19, and the Seven Vials, or Bowls, of Wrath described from Revelation 16:1 through 16:21. But there are many more “Sevens” in this wonderful, complex book. Again, the Revelation is about the Lord completing His Plan and the “Sevens” clearly demonstrate that.

There are seven new things in the Revelation; a new name for believers, a new name for Jesus, a new Jerusalem, the four throne guardians and the twenty-four elders sing a new song, the 144,000 chosen Israelites sing a new song, a new Heaven, a new Earth.

There are seven classifications of men listed that tried to hide themselves in the Revelation 6:15; kings, great men, rich men, chief captains, mighty men, bondman, free man.

In chapter five of the Revelation there are an uncountable number of angels declaring that the Lamb of God is worthy to receive seven things; power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, blessing.

The Revelation contains seven blessings; Blessed is he that readeth ... and keep those things which are written, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb, Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the First Resurrection, Blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book, Blessed are they that do his commandments.

The word “sickle” occurs seven times in chapter fourteen which is about the complete, and final, harvest of the earth.

The word “prophecy” occurs seven times in the Revelation. It occurs three times in chapters 1 through 19, and four times in chapter 22, the final chapter.

The Apostle John saw seven last visions (Revelation 20:1 – 21:22); And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit , And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them, And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

All of these many “sevens” indicate the completeness found in the Revelation. May the Lord be praised for revealing His complete plan and prophecy to us in His Word. Praise Him always!
